Judy with her dog, Sadie
This is Sadie, our adorable and bratty 15 year old border collie/terrier mix. She is loving and fun, but definitely has a mischievous streak. Now that she’s a senior citizen, I can look back fondly at her young-dog antics. When she was a puppy, though, she was a real handful. One of her trademark activities was to run through the house at full-speed, launching herself off the walls as she tore past. She can become obsessed with Frisbees and certain squeaky toys to the point where I have to hide them in a cupboard so she can’t see them!
Judy's cat, Shyster
Shyster, our feral but mostly sociable little cat, is 16 years old. Shyster's mom delivered a litter of 5 black kittens in our backyard in 1999. We were able to catch 4 of the kittens and found good homes for them. Eventually, we managed to trap mom-cat, had her fixed and then released her back into our yard where she lived for a number of years. We also were able to catch Shyster when he was about 3 months old, had him neutered and he has been living happily with us ever since.
Judy's dog, Penny
Our sweet-tempered, devoted shepherd/labrador mix, Penny, is pictured here. Penny was our constant companion for 15 wonderful years. She could find tennis balls anywhere and loved swimming in lakes. After several serious illnesses, Penny’s health rapidly declined and we had to make the agonizing decision to have her put to sleep. This was the most difficult decision I’ve ever had to make. I grieved for months over the loss of my beloved dog. She is still with me, many years later, in my heart and memories.
